Pope Francis has called for the entire church to engage in a  synod process that will begin which each diocese of the world and culminate with a gathering of bishops in Rome in 2023.

The Holy Father is asking us to open our hearts and our ears to hear from one another as we engage this vision.  The synod process should help us grow in discipleship and also give us insights into how we are to bring the Gospel to the culture whether it be those who have left the church or those who have no faith at all.  
The synod process will center on three conversations.  They are Communion, Participation, and Mission.  Under each of these areas, there are several questions that are posed for our consideration when we gather in small groups.

Communion
What fills you with joy about your parish life and the    Catholic Church?
What causes you concern about your parish life and the Catholic Church?
How is God speaking to us through the voices that are in our midst?
How is God speaking to us through voices we sometimes ignore, including those on the peripheries?

Participation
Are you encouraged to speak up courageously and responsibly about challenges and concerns? Do you feel hear? Do you respectfully listen to the voices of others?
What space is there in our parishes for the voice of people including active and inactive members of our faith?
How can we create greater opportunities for people to be heard in your parish?  In the wider Church? In the wider community?

Mission
How are the baptized members of your parish able to participate in the mission of the Church to proclaim the Gospel?
How are teamwork and co-responsibility put into practice in your local parish?
What type of support do you need to grow in your personal relationship with Jesus and the Catholic church?
What type of support do you need to help others to enter into a personal relationship with Jesus and the  Catholic Church?  How can the Catholic Church accompany and support you with these?
 
This Lent will be an opportunity for the entire parish to gather to discuss these three areas that Pope Francis has proposed for our consideration.  I am asking all of you to begin pondering these questions and to be willing to engage in this process.  Trusting in the guidance of the Holy Spirit, may our participation in the synod process be a Lenten exercise that enlightens us to build up the Body of Christ.

El Papa Francisco ha llamado a toda la iglesia a participar en un proceso de sínodo que comenzará en cada diócesis del mundo y culminará con una reunión de obispos en Roma en 2023. El Santo Padre nos pide que abramos  nuestros corazones y nuestros oídos para escucharnos unos a otros mientras participamos en esta visión. El proceso del sínodo debería ayudarnos a crecer en el discipulado y también darnos una idea de cómo debemos llevar el    Evangelio a la cultura, ya sea para aquellos que han dejado la iglesia o aquellos que no tienen fe en absoluto. El proceso del sínodo se centrará en tres conversaciones. Son Comunión, Participación y Misión. Bajo cada una de estas áreas, hay varias preguntas que se plantean para nuestra consideración cuando nos reunimos en grupos   pequeños.

Comunión
¿Qué te llena de alegría acerca de su parroquia y la Iglesia Católica?
¿Qué le preocupa de su parroquia y la Iglesia Católica?
¿Cómo nos habla Dios en las voces que circulan en nuestro medio?
¿Cómo nos habla Dios en las voces que a veces ignoramos, incluso las de las periferias?

Participación
¿Te anima la Iglesia a hablar con valentía y responsabilidad sobre los desafíos y las preocupaciones de esta? ¿Te sientes escuchado por la Iglesia? ¿Escuchas las voces de los demás?
¿Qué espacio hay en su parroquia para escuchar la voz de los fieles, incluidos los miembros activos e inactivos de nuestra fe?
¿Cómo podemos crear mayores oportunidades para que las personas sean escuchadas en su parroquia? en la Iglesia? en la plaza pública?

Misión
¿Cómo pueden los miembros bautizados de su parroquia participar en la misión encomendada a la Iglesia de anunciar el Evangelio?
¿Cómo se practica el trabajo en equipo y la corresponsabilidad en su parroquia?
¿Qué tipo de apoyo y acompañamiento necesitas para crecer en tu relación personal con Jesús y Su Iglesia?
¿Qué tipo de apoyo y acompañamiento necesitas para ayudar a otros a entrar en una relación personal con Jesús y Su Iglesia?

Esta Cuaresma será una oportunidad para que toda la parroquia se reúna para discutir estas tres áreas que el Papa Francisco ha propuesto para nuestra consideración. Les pido a todos que comiencen a reflexionar sobre estas preguntas y que estén dispuestos a participar en este proceso. Confiados en la guía del Espíritu Santo, que nuestra participación en el proceso sinodal sea un ejercicio cuaresmal que nos ilumine para     edificar el Cuerpo de Cristo.
